Biofolate ® (L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate Ca, or L-5-MTHF Ca) could be the metabolically active form of folic acid. The “folic acid” found in food could be cleaved (digested) from protein carriers in order to be absorbed. This process may be inefficient in some individuals. Once absorbed, the folic acid could undergo several biochemical conversions in the body to become L-5-MTHF Ca. By supplementing with L-5-MTHF Ca, one could be assured of getting the benefits of folic acid, regardless of the individual’s ability to absorb or convert it to the active form.
